Our many services include, but are not limited to, the ones outlined in this section.
Sports Injuries
We have a distinguished reputation in our region for the effectiveness of our work in treating both recreational and semi-professional athletes.
Our goal is to address the injury, reduce pain and inflammation and engage the healing process. To do that we draw on science and our experience.
We know you don’t want to be sidelined from your favourite sport or fitness activity for long, so we do our best to help you modify your program and stay active during the rehabilitation process, rather than stop everything.
At the same time, we take steps to ensure that you do not sustain recurring injuries.
Back and Neck Pain
In Canada, one of the most common reasons people seek physiotherapy is to find relief from acute or chronic back and neck pain.
Both conditions can seriously deter us from living life actively and can seriously impact our quality of living.
After attempting to discern the root cause of your pain, we will work out a customized physiotherapy treatment plan to begin the healing process.
We also combine the physiotherapy with a series of therapeutic exercises you can do at home between visits to the clinic so you can be a partner in your own recovery.
Dry Needling
At Modern Sports Physio and Wellness Centre, we offer dry needling, a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body that produces pain and typically contains a “trigger point.”
No solution is injected into the body and the needle used is very thin so that most patients typically do not even feel it enter the skin. Once it advances into the muscle, patients may experience different responses although generally healthy muscles experience very little discomfort.
Patients typically have positive results after two to four treatment sessions, depending on the cause and duration of their symptoms.
This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional issues.
Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
For a faster, more complete recovery following joint replacement or other surgery, physiotherapy has been found in a series of evidence-based studies to be effective.
We are knowledgeable about joint replacement surgery and other surgeries and will work as a team with your surgeon and physician to ensure that your therapy is customized to your specific condition.
Our goal is to help you regain your strength, range of motion and activity so that you can get back to living life on your terms as quickly as possible.
Orthopedic Injuries
We are specially trained in orthopedics, the science of correcting injuries and conditions that impact the skeletal system and its associated joints, muscles and ligaments.
Using modern evidence-based therapies, we combine manual therapy techniques with therapeutic exercises and sometimes modalities to ensure that you get back as quickly as possible to pain-free, active living.
Shockwave
Shockwave uses mechanical energy in the form of acoustic waves that increases local circulation and stimulate the body's healing process. Treatment is targeted on the damaged tissue through the hand held applicator and can enhance breakdown of adhesions, scar tissue and calcification.
It can treat a wide range of injuries/conditions from trigger points in muscles, to calcifications, tendinopathies to chronic conditions.
Full treatment of a condition can vary between 3-6 sessions done 1 week apart. Each shockwave treatment also includes manual treatment for the remainder of the appointment time.
